I love growing our food and providing for my family. But we also need to make some other changes, as my husband and I need to lose weight, and we and our three girls still at home all want to improve our health. This past six months I have been SO busy that I've slipped into worse habits than usual, and have put on a few extra pounds. Enough! This past week I turned 45, and we celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary. I determined I would change before I was 40, but time has slipped on by. Now, we're grabbing the bull by the horns, and making changes as a family. After watching That Sugar Film and reading Wheat Belly and Trim Healthy Mama, we've decided to start by going sugar and gluten free. This website, Kiwi Urban Homestead, will remain focussed on gardening and homesteading, and related things including recipes. I will also finish posting recent recipes for some of the preserves I made. I expect to post less here over winter, as things are slower in the garden, but it will pick up again in spring. At the same time, I have also started a new blog focussing on our sugar-and-gluten-free journey, including what we're eating each day, what we learn along the way, and recipes. We began this week, and there are some great recipes on the recipe page already. As I get my head around this new lifestyle, there are bound to be more and more self-sufficient or home grown meal ideas too. To check it out, visit http://wequitsugarandgluten.weebly.com/. The blog also has it's own Facebook page if you want to keep up with the posts regularly.
